     Grace Benedict was born in Windsor, Ontario, Canada in 1955. In 1977 she completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts in drawing at the University of Windsor and went on to earn her Masters of Fine Arts in painting and drawing at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1979.

     Grace has been an exhibiting artist for over 35 years and her work has been shown widely in the U.S., Canada, and is in collections in England, Germany, Poland and Japan.

     In 2004, Grace received an Individual Artist Grant from the Indiana Arts Commission towards a series of drawings based on sculpture from historic cemeteries and courthouse monuments, which resulted in several exhibitions.

     Colored pencil is the dominant medium in Grace's work, which she often combines with graphite, charcoal, chalk pastels, and ink and watercolor washes. Much of her work is directly observed from life as she responds to and expresses various subjects. Her work is energetic, yet always carefully constructed.
